Preparing for the modernization of the 12,5-MN press line
5.12.2005

After successfully performed modernization works of 20-MN press line in the production process in the beginning of this year, the maintenance team is again getting ready to a new, even bigger modernization of 12.5-MN press.

This press is the oldest one of those operating in Impol, because it has been operating for 44 years. The producer of the press is Schloemann company from Germany. The press was first included in the tube production in Impol in 1961. In 1980, the press was moved from the tube production area to the factory of profilarn where it is used for pressuring more demanding thin-wall profiles of smaller cross-sections. The press operates with high working pressure (315 bars) and therefore some units are extremely burdened. Operation of this press is necessary for the fulfillment of the program production. This is the reason we decided for a larger modernization with the replacement of some key components. Cross head will be replaces by the main cylinder and filling valve. We will also replace the carrier of the recipient and cylinders for the recipient. Modification of the internal cylinders for the recipient drive will also be performed. A part of high-pressure hydraulic pipelines will also be replaced.

With the modernization, we wish to ensure a ore reliable operation of the press and we also want to lower the number of the maintenance work that are results of troubles. Modernization works started on 10 December with the dismantling of the components. Assembling-renovation works will be finished by 22 December. Installation works and dry testing will take place during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Resumed push and trial production are planned for the first week in January 2006. It is predicted the modernized press to be included in the regular production by 6 January.
