Professional service for safety and health dealt with 54 occupational accidents from January to November 2004. The fact that there was no more serious occupational accident in this period is pleasant. According to the number, this means there were five less occupational accidents if compared to the same period in 2003. All occupational accidents were classified as minor. Absences from work were in average not longer than two weeks. Data for nine months show that we have lost 0.56 percent of working hours due to sick leaves in one year. Negligence, not using the prescribed safety equipment and not following the regulations for work safety can be found among the reasons for occupational accidents. Željka Kutija, responsible for the system of health and occupational safety in Impol, has warned about the fact that every employee is responsible for his working post. If something is not in conformity with the regulations, the employee has to notify the superior about this immediately. Željka Kutija said that she had done 397 supervisory examinations of working posts in production processes in 2004 and warned about 145 non-conformities. When examining, she checks is there are regulations for occupational safety present at the working post, if workers use the prescribed personal safety equipment, if safeguards are used and if machinery safeguard in present. She also checks if superiors perform education about occupational safety for qualifications of workers and if they have written records about this. She first warns the violators and if the conditions and handling are not improved, she then issues a written complaint on the basis of stated violations. Written complaint is then followed by a procedure for declaring the violations of contract of employment. It the violation is proved, the workers and his superior are both punished. With performing the continuous supervision that is carried out by foreman in the shift, by production supervisor and by expert on the system of health and occupational safety we wish to dispatch any possible future occupational accidents. Miran Pajek, leader of packing service, and Jože Berdnik, foreman in the shift, accompanied Željka Kutija on her working visit to the program unit of Valjarna.
